Chamundeshwari Temple

Chamundeshwari Temple is a Hindu temple located in the Chamundi Hills in Mysore, Karnataka, India.

Deity :

The main deity of the Chamundeshwari Temple is Chamundeshwari Devi, one form of the Hindu Goddess Durga. The temple was named after this god.

Location :

The temple is located in the Chamundi Hills, about 13 km east of Mysore. The temple is largely located on top of a hill and offers a panoramic view of Mysore and surrounding areas.

History :

Chamundeshwari Temple has a rich history dating back centuries. It is said to have been built in the 12th century, and was later repaired and enlarged by the Vodeyar kings of Mysore. The Temple has undergone numerous renovations and additions over the years.

Architecture :

The architecture of the temple is a mixture of Dravidian and Hoysala styles. The entrance of the temple is decorated with a seven-tiered gopuram (Pyramid Gopuram), the garbhagriha contains the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari Other small temples and buildings are in the temple.

Chamundeshwari Idol :

The main deity, Goddess Chamundeshwari, is depicted with eight arms and seated on a lion. The image is made of gold and silver. He is adorned with various ornaments and his image is considered very sacred by devotees.

Nandi Statue :

As you climb the steps leading to the temple, you will see a huge Nandi bull statue, which is believed to be the mount of Lord Shiva. This idol of Nandi was carved out of a single granite rock.

Festivals :

The temple attracts a large number of devotees, especially during the annual festival Navratri, which is dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and includes various cultural programs and feasts.

Chamundi Hills :
